San Francisco rethinks “sanctuary city” policy

Gavin.jpg
San Francisco is stepping back from its “sanctuary city” policy, according to a story in the Washington Post Thursday.

Mayor Gavin Newsom (pictured) announced this week that the city “would begin handing over for deportation juvenile illegal immigrants with drug convictions, reversing a controversial policy of flying the youths back to their home countries at the city’s expense,” the Post said.

The paper also said that the flights were rooted in a 1989 ordinance declaring the city a “sanctuary” for illegal immigrants and that they stopped this spring after a U.S. attorney threatened to prosecute city officials for harboring criminals.

Sanctuary cities should be required to pay 100% of any expense (education, medical, welfare, etc) associated with illegal aliens. There is no way the rest of us should have to cover expenses associated with illegals in a city like San Francisco that willingly ignors our laws.

Its time for the Federal government to prosecute state and local officials for their conspiracy to violate Federal law. Both aiding and abeting illegal aliens.

Small towns such as Marshall Texas, Harrison county seat harbors illegal aliens. They are increasing in size every day. Go to Wal-Mart’s and count them they are there in droves and cannot speak the our language. Poor Marshall, just more gangs to deal with. When are this town’s leaders going to open their eyes and see that we pay the taxes these people get education and welfare for free. Wake up America get rid of the free loaders.

[‘As far as i think it is a good decision taken by San francisco.’] It’s all BS from city whose leaders(?) don’t know right from wrong or good from evil. Now Frisco swings from a “sanctuary city” to a haven for happy hookers.

“Prostitution to be legalized in San Francisco?”

[‘San Francisco will shortly vote on a kind of de facto legalization of prostitution within city limits. While the state of California prohibits prostitution, the referendum would prevent city police or prosecutors from spending any money on enforcement of those laws. Even the often-outrageous mayor, Gavin Newsom, thinks this is a bad idea:

A measure that aims to keep prostitutes from facing criminal charges has qualified for the November ballot in San Francisco.

The measure, which qualified Friday, would bar authorities from spending money to investigate or prosecute prostitutes for engaging in prostitution.

This is the second time the measure has attempted to get on the ballot. The Erotic Service Providers Union — yes, prostitutes have a union in San Francisco — tried to get enough signatures in 2006 but fell short. They managed to convince enough people to sign it this time, and one wonders if they had to put a new meaning on “by hook or by crook” to do it.

Newsom objects to the measure as an impediment to investigating sex-trafficking crimes. It also might present a major challenge to state sovereignty. If California cities do not have to enforce state laws, then the entire notion of the sovereign state collapses. The California legislature might have to change jurisdictional laws to impose a state police force on San Francisco.

All prurient curiosity aside, this vote could present an interesting political challenge for Californians. If the state lets this stand, where does its sovereignty end, or even begin?’]

Another pro-Illegal Alien mayor in trouble with his bosses, voting American Citizens.

“Legal immigrant from Mexico seeks recall of Phoenix mayor”
[‘Mayor Phil Gordon of Phoenix, Arizona is facing a recall effort lead by a woman who was born in Mexico, came to the U.S. legally and became a citizen. Anna Gaines says illegal aliens are committing crimes in Phoenix, and the mayor is not doing enough to fix the problem.

The group headed by Gaines, a retired teacher, wants tougher immigration enforcement.

The mayor, of course, describes the group as “extremists.” He went on the offensive this spring in criticizing Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s immigration and crime sweeps in two predominantly Hispanic areas of Phoenix. Gordon has asked for a federal investigation of Arpaio for possible civil rights violations.

Gordon was criticized last year for not changing a longstanding policy that ordered police officers to hold off on asking questions about people’s citizenship, except for people suspected of committing a serious felony. The policy has since been changed to let officers ask all criminal suspects about their immigration status.

Gaines says the change in the police department policy was made because advocates like her pushed for it.’]
