Key House committee to hold series of immigration hearings

The House Judiciary Committee announced Wednesday that it would hold several hearings on immigration in the coming weeks.

“Over the past year, it has become clear that we need an immigration system that is fair, legal, and tough,” said Rep. John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat who chairs the committee. “The Bush administration has lost control of our borders and failed to deliver an immigration system that is good for American families, workers, and businesses. It is time to address those failures.”

It is unclear, however, whether any of the hearings will address an enforcement bill which is gaining support in the House.

The measure, dubbed the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement Act or SAVE Act, would increase the Border Patrol by 8,000, train more state and local police to enforce immigration law, and require that all businesses, within four years, use a government program to verify the legal status of their employees.

The program, known as E-Verify, is currently voluntary. Businesses and civil-rights groups have argued that the quality of some government databases poses a major problem for the system.

Most of the House members pushing the SAVE Act are Republicans, however the author of the legislation is a Democrat, Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina. Other conservative Democrats also support the legislation.

A press release from the House Judiciary Committee says that the hearings will “examine a variety of issues regarding immigration.”

The federal SAVE ACT is the answer to Americas 12 to 30 million illegal immigration plague. Leading Democrats are trying to gut it, including the border fence. Mr. Rubenstein, a former director of research at the Hudson Institute, a nonpartisan policy research organization, said U.S. taxpayers paid more than $9,000 for each immigrant in the country, a third of whom are believed to be in the U.S. illegally.

In addition, more than 37 million immigrants in the United States, both legal and illegal, cost the federal government more than $346 billion last year, twice as much as the nation’s fiscal deficit, according to a report released yesterday. The loss estimates, the report said, included $100 billion in federal taxes lost “from the reduction of native incomes caused by immigrant workers.” He also stated that even programs that are not usually associated with immigration, he said, have actually added financial burdens to the taxpayers. American Taxpayers cannot afford to subsidies predator employers anymore.

Find the unsuppressed truth to all the lies, spin and rhetoric announced by our politicians, big business, the church cartels and special interest lobby. NUMBERSUSA! AMERICAN PATROL! GRASSFIRE! LIBERTY POST! VDARE! FAIRUS! UNIPAC! Remember that anti-illegal immigration organizations are not bankrolled by the special interest foundations and unaware taxpayers!

Rena; your points have been recycled so often they’ve become irrelevant. Don’t join your points in irrelevancy. Do you seek relevancy? If so then ask yourself, are you really concerned about living conditions that exist in corrupt 3rd world republics that encourage peons to become economic slaves?

If you are really concerned then you should be in one of those pathetic country’s fighting for the peons to have the basic human rights that are being denied them by their homelands greedy ruling despots & dictators. Perhaps you could carpool with others who’re concerned about disgusting societal conditions in the 3rd world.

As far as your dragging the “Chinese” into the discussion, if they’re Immigrants they’re not part of the problem. However if they’re Illegal Aliens they must be sent back to their homeland along with all other Illegals, regardless of nationality.
