AT&T launches 3G wireless broadband in Delray Beach

Ladies and gentlemen, start your downloads.

AT&T rolled out its 3G wireless broadband service in Delray Beach this week.

The network cell site is located on Lomond Hills Trail near Florida’s Turnpike. It extends high-speed wireless coverage from Lomond Hills Trail north to Atlantic Avenue, south to Clint Moore Road, west to the turnpike and east to Jog Road.

Much of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast already have coverage, although the company expects to complete its network in St. Lucie and Indian River counties by the end of this year.

What’s the big deal? 3G delivers download speeds ranging from 600 to 1,400 kilobits a second and upload speeds of 500 to 800 kilobits. That should make it easier to watch TV on the wireless Web.

Why do we care about this in Austin?

No kidding, Steve. Are there any editors working this weekend? Considering how many local stories this sorry paper misses, Mr. Pounds efforts would be better spent reporting NEWS FROM AUSTIN. The only local tie in this story is that ATT&T already offers this service in Austin, but they failed to include that. Please take Journalism 101 so we can get useful local news.

Really - two Austin companies, ViaNovo and Convio hosted a wonderful event at the National Press Club on how the internet is changing politics, advocacy and philanthropy - thye had Rock the Vote, Facebook, American Cancer Society and internet strategists from presidental campaigns. This paper didn’t event bother to mention it. Luckily the blog-world has covered it. You can watch the whole thing online through a link at http://www.everydaygivingblog.com/

Why the Statesman doesn’t cover good thing local companies do astounds me. That’s why I stopped subscribing several years ago. It’s wasted money. DF
