Dell Inc. has confirmed it has laid off at least 1,200 people at its sales and support centers in Edmonton, Ottawa and Oklahoma City.
Itis not know whether today’s cuts will affect workers here.

Apparently there were already some lay offs locally, mainly the RR campus. Not sure of the numbers, but I’ve heard there definitely were cuts last week in support areas.

Dell is a decrepit company, and management is taking it down the toilet. The pay sucks and there is no opportunity for advancement.

Some local workers were let go from Dell recently and I believe this is now an annual event for the company. It must make for an uneasy work environment knowing that at the first of every year you could be let go.

The way Dell is going, poor product, non-existant customer service & tech support that is a joke they are going to wind up just like Gateway. I know that I will not purchase a Dell PC again after this past year of total disappointment in their product. I know some folks out at the RR office, I hope they didn’t ge the ax. One has been their for a long long time.

My wife was laid off at OKC Dell today. (We actually heard about it on the news before they called our house to lay her off) sadly this is the second time in a year she’s been laid off. She was laid off after working at AOL for over 10 years. Took her 6 months to get on at Dell only to get laid off. We were enjoying the benefits and decent wagses (still no where near what she earned at AOL, but much higher than most jobs)

This is not about a fat cut, this is a move in a long list of political moves to condition Americans to accept India as the new call center epi-center. All call centers in North America will eventually be closed.
Expect US companies to eventually give all the jobs to India, China and others. This includes professional jobs as well like accounting, legal, IT, R&D, marketing. Skeleton mgmt. crews will be all that is required on US soil. Complain to your government representatives for a middle class future on US soil.

keep the jobs where the customers are. That seems to be one way to handle global companies.
US customers should talk to US call centers. Indian customers should talk to indian call centers, etc.
Free trade has failed the US. All other countries are robbing the US as the tweep white MBA students figure out how to make the shareholders wealthier. Consider the complaining about outsourcing, but also consider americans want their mutual funds to increase as well. Cost custing outsourcing increases mutual funds value….can’t have your cake and eat it too…hahaha
